The 2021 AISA Global Issues Service Summit (AISA-GISS) hosted by the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA), in collaboration with the American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ), took place on Friday 7 May and Saturday 8 May 2021.

Over the years, AISA-GISS has been run as a 3-day, onsite, service learning event hosted by an AISA member school where student delegates are motivated to discuss and explore how to solve local community issues and global prevailing challenges. Students are encouraged to present and learn from positive stories of community engagements and student-led service projects. In a typical year, attendees would also spend time working together on hands-on projects within the host school’s local community.

This year, AISA-GISS was hosted as a virtual event with the theme ‘Inguquko‘, a Zulu word that means ‘Change‘. The youth of this generation are rising up, taking the initiative and with one voice declaring, ‘Change Starts with Us’.

The two half-days over a Friday and Saturday were packed with presentations from special guests, the host school and other participating schools. Students from the AISA community also had a chance to submit recent service projects on topics they are passionate about.

If you would like to share a service project presentation to be included in the student showcase page, please reach out to our team at AISA-Giss@aisj-jhb.com.
