Samuel Awami Co-Founder of DarPost, Journalist

Samuel Awami

Currently a reporter with the BBC Africa, based in Dar es Salaam, Sammy Awami is a William Southam Journalism Fellow, winner of a Canadian Journalism Foundation Award and runner-up for a British David Astor Journalism Award. Inspired by culture, Sammy is constantly itched to tell a story, mostly quenched when it deviates from the stereotypical. He has a passion for community journalism, stemming from his early journalism days in Mwanza working with community radio, Radio SAUT. Prior to joining the BBC, Sammy has worked with a number of Tanzanian media organizations including The Citizen, The Guardian on Sunday and Star TV. In February 2015 he co-founded DarPost.com, an online news page for relevant and up to date news and community information in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

(He and Mr. Daniel Hayduk will be doing their changemaker session
together on the importance of community journalism, the responsibility
we all have to participate, and its vital role in Tanzania’s future.)
