For Advisors

How do I register my team of students for the summit?
Please click on the “registration” link and follow instructions there. You will need to know full names, passport nationalities, age and gender for all student participants on your team. You will also need flight details in terms of airline, flight numbers, and arrival and departure times. The registration can be changed or updated until payment is made.

What is the Cost?
Each school pays a “Delegation Fee” of $250, allowing up to 2 teacher advisors to register. Then each student pays $ 225 (early bird rate) or $250 (standard rate). Extra teacher advisors (beyond the 2) pay normal student prices.

Prices include all the activities in the summit, welcome pack, meals during conference, transport and carbon fee. In case of students, it also includes home-staying with AISM families.

How do I pay all registration fees, etc.?
Towards the end of the registration process, you will see instructions in terms of payment. You may elect to do a bank transfer or use an online Paypal option (with a credit card) to pay your fees.

Do we need visas to visit Mozambique?
Most visitors to Mozambique require a VISA. Unfortunately, Visas are no longer being issued upon arrival, unless for exceptional cases. You will have to arrange visas for the delegation prior to the trip. AISM will issue invitation letters for all participants. Please contact Gabriel Limaverde (gabriel.limaverde@aism-moz.com) if you are experiencing any difficulties processing your visas).

How will my team get from the airport to AISM?
The AISM Welcoming Committee will provide airport transfers from and to the airport. Once we have your flight information, we will arrange transport for your school team.

What role will I play, as a teacher advisor, during the summit? What will my primary responsibilities be?
Essentially, you will be responsible for your team and the behavior of your students during the summit. Please coach your students, in advance, of proper behavior in keynote sessions (no talking, no computers, and no cell phones) and in general students should be highly engaged, socialize with students from all other teams and be respectful to home stay families. As a teacher advisor, you will be part of a sustainability team and a service day team. You will also participate in advisor sessions where you will be able to share what is happening at your school in terms of GIN/GISS initiatives.

Where can I stay during the summit? What are my accommodation options?
Students will stay with home stay families during the summit. Teachers may choose 1 of 3 options (option #1 is recommended. From December 2014, please mention GISS conference for special prices), or stay with one of our staff members:

  • Option #1: Southern Sun Maputo (Avenida de Marginal) – Partnered with the conference, special prices if GISS conference is mentioned while booking. 5′ walk to conference center.
  • Option #2: Radisson Blu Maputo (Avenida de Marginal) – a bit more expensive, a great accommodation option in Maputo. Also near conference center.
  • Option #3: Mozaika Guest House (Av. Agostinho Neto, 769 – Sommerschield) – charming accomodation. Cheaper, but limited rooms. ~15 min ride to conference Center.

What is arranged for teachers in terms of transport during the summit?
For teachers staying at indicated hotels, bus transportation will be provided to and from the guest to AISM each day.

How can my team prepare a really good workshop and how many workshops will my team need to lead?
A thorough preparation for student-led workshops is crucial if workshops are going to be successful. Workshops are 45 minutes long and should involve an informative presentation plus activities that engage all participants to practice what they have learnt. Each school must present up to 1 workshop. Schools with larger teams may present 2 workshops. In the “registration” section of this site, you will be able to register your school’s workshop title and description.

Is it advisable to extend my delegation’s stay in Maputo?
Yes, definitely. Maputo offers a great variety of one-day trips or city tours that are really good experiences. We will help you find an ideal program for your extended stay, along with the service providers.
