Student workshop guidelines: GISS 2018

Purpose: Students will show their understanding of a local problem and explain the process by which they attempted to solve it to allow replication in other communities. Students should also use this time to get feedback from like-minded students.  

Time: 35 minutes

Expectations:

  1. Provide a brief overview of the global issue they addressed/or will address with their service project.
    1. Students must connect this to a local issue in their community.
    2. Students must analyse causes and implications of the issue.
    3. Students must explain how this issue is a local issue that could be global.
  2. Create a main question that will be answered throughout the presentation
  3. Frame an effective statement
    1. Ex: We have impacted ______ amount of people successfully by ______ (date) using ______strategies ______ resources, and ______ methods to achieve our goal of powerfully benefiting ______ community.
      1. Effective statements will differ between the projects, but should consist of what or who you are impacting, the resources used, strategies, and project dates.
        1. If you’re talking about a plan that you have not yet developed, you may still present it, however be clear on how you will further this project.
  4. Explain your achievable action plan:
    1. How will you approach your local issue?
    2. How are you planning to make your work achievable
  5. Share the successes and challenges you faced
    1. Or the successes and challenges you may face ((if the project has not been undertaken yet)
  6. Outline what you would do differently next time
    1. Or what you would avoid doing (if the project has not been undertaken yet)
  7. This is a student-led workshop and students are encouraged to make this as interactive as possible. Take this opportunity to get feedback from like-minded students and adults!
