Mehjabeen Alarakhia

Mehjabeen has a Masters in International Development and Bachelor’s Degrees in Sociology and Social Work. Her master’s thesis research focused on Export Processing Zones in Tanzania and their link to economic development.

Prior to joining UN Women, Mehjabeen worked with UNFPA as the Family Planning Coordinator managing the national Family Planning portfolio of approximately US$11.5million per year. Prior to this Mehjabeen worked with the Norwegian Embassy as the Health, Gender, Civil Society and Human Rights Advisor to the Ambassador. In this capacity, Mehjabeen worked with several government institutions and non-government partners on mainstreaming gender and increasing women’s participation in non-traditional sectors.

Mehjabeen has also worked in the NGO sector for both CARE International and for the Legal and Human Rights Centre. At CARE Mehjabeen Coordinated an NGO consortium advocating for Womens’ rights to quality health care services, and with LHRC Mehjabeen was the fundraising advisor.
